The magic of yin yoga goes way beyond building flexibility. To me this practice is time to reflect and settle into postures allowing our body time to digest the sensations and emotional attachments we hold within each posture. In yang practices such as ashtanga and vinyasa, we follow the breath and flow into postures where we settled for a few breaths.
Staying into deep restorative postures for up to 10 minutes requires more mental focus in order to fully commit to a posture, slowly working through the meridians and melting away any points of tension. The music to accompany this practice should be of minimal words and have sounds that lull the body into a relaxed state. This is my current favourite.
